source: Sei sonate per l’oboe, flauto traverso o violino con basso. Op. 1 (Paris c. 1750)
scoring: A (Bc)
This minuet with variations is the last movement of the first sonata and was originally meant for a transverse flute (or oboe). We present it here in four different versions:
1. The original version in G major that fits a transverse flute or a voice flute;
2. A transposed version to Bb that fits a treble recorder, but it is quite difficult;
3. An adapted version in the original key of G major, easier than the Bb version;
4. An adapted version in F major, possibly even easier than the G major version.

Jean Baptiste Loeillet de Gant (1688 - c. 1720):  Sonata II in G minor
source: Six Sonatas for two German flutes (London 172?), No. 2
scoring: AA
As usual, this duo, which was composed for two transverse flutes in E minor, may be transposed a third above and performed with two treble recorders.
Originally there is a movement in G major (Bb major) placed after the 4th movement «Vivace». Because of its key signature and its position, I think this piece does not belong to Sonata II. I transcribed it anyway and placed at end of the sonata. Obviously, you are free to play it as 5th movement disregarding my opinion.

Anonymous (XVII cent.):  Sawnay
source: Deusiesme recueil des dances et contre-dances avec la basse continue (Amsterdam 1688), No. 42
scoring: A (Bc)
The Sawnay is a sort of wind instrument with quadruple reed of the Maranao people, who live in the southern Philippines.
The instrument is about 28.4 cm long, the tube 6.5 mm in diameter, and the end of the bell about 4 cm in diameter.
It is related with other similar Asian instruments, like the more famous Shehnai of India. All of these instruments are eventually related with the European shawms and especially with the soprano of the family: the Shalmey.
It is obvious from this piece that the Sawnay was already known in Europe in the XVII century.

Tempo marks are editorial and the second movement – Solfeggio Trentesimo Primo – originally was notated in 3/8.
